About us
Welcome to t’ Friethuys Groeneveld
How it started
On 1 November 2019 I, Lars Groeneveld, took over the Friethuys in Alkmaar after years of working in my parents’ snack bars. With that experience, and together with my staff — my two cousins and some friends — I have been able to build a close-knit (family) team. This place caught my eye not only because it sits in a beautiful little street in the old town, the Magdalenenstraat, where many other fresh food shops are located, but also because I liked that the focus here is on preparing the freshest and tastiest fries.
The tastiest fries and croquettes: handmade and traditionally prepared
Every day we carefully scrape, wash and hand-cut many kilos of potatoes. Pre-frying and frying them in high-quality vegetable oil and frying fat is what makes them the tastiest fries around. You can of course also buy the pre-fried chips to finish at home whenever it suits you — we supply plenty of fresh pre-fried chips to restaurants that way as well. On top of that you will find our traditionally hand-rolled beef and veal croquettes and the bamiballen from Lunchroom Fons Hof in Haarlem. The veal, vegetable and shrimp croquettes from Patisserie Holtkamp are still on the menu too, alongside the frikandellen, kipcorns, cheese soufflés and cheese croquettes. And you have a generous choice of no fewer than 18 sauces.
Sustainable and environmentally aware: our packaging and recycling
We package everything in 100% biodegradable, unbleached bags, trays and carrier bags. We also hand out recycled unbleached napkins and wooden chip forks. We collect the used vegetable oil and frying fat and have it picked up so it can be recycled into biodiesel. The potato peelings are turned into compost. That is how we contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Come and visit
You will find us in the Magdalenenstraat, right next to the Waag tower in the centre of Alkmaar.
